Confirmation is about becoming an adult in the Christian Church. In these classes we take everything the students learned in Sunday School and CASE along with Luther’s Small Catechism and dig deeper into the Bible. The point is to begin to purposefully apply it to real life. The goal of these lessons is to teach the six foundational parts of the Christian faith as we learn them through:
The 10 Commandments
The Apostles’ Creed
The Lord’s Prayer
Confession and Absolution
Holy Baptism
Holy Communion
The students learn that those old dusty books, like the Bible and the Catechism, are in fact useful books from which we can find great wisdom.
Perhaps the greatest assumption these lesson try to overcome is the idea that Confirmation is the end-all goal; that once I get though Confirmation I’ve learned it all. An important point stressed through the lessons is that Confirmation is just the basics. If it is anything like graduation it is like graduating from kindergarten. Confirmation provides the tools with which one can really start to learn about the rich, deep, wonder and security that is found nowhere else but the Holy Christian Faith.
